Boys Basketball Update

The Blackduck Boys basketball team took on the Pine River Tigers Jan. 5 but lost in a 65-60 close one, bringing the Drakes' record to 4-4 on the season.

"The team couldn't find much energy coming off the break," said Blackduck's head coach Grant Mistic. "We need to play better defense and rebound better," he said.

Josh RedDay scored big for Blackduck, bringing in 31 points and four rebounds. Alex Lossing had 10 rebounds and added 9 points of his own as did Brandon Beck. Beck was responsible for one rebound. Trey Volk brought in 8 points for the Drakes and had two rebounds and Michael Dexter put up 3 points.

Also having rebounds for the Drakes were Todd Kallroos with seven and Nick Liapis with two.

The Drakes put on the power, Jan. 8 against Red Lake, winning handily, 73-52.

"The team played with better energy," said Coach Mistic, "but turned the ball over too many times."

Shane Fenske lead the Drakes' scoring with 12 points and eight rebounds. Lossing added 10 points and had four rebounds. Volk had 7 points and eight rebounds, Kallroos added 6 points and had three rebounds and RedDay scored 5 for the Drakes and had four rebounds.

Also scoring for Blackduck were Jake Olafson who put in 2 points and had two rebounds, Lucas Krabbenhoft also had 2 points and two rebounds, Peter Fraley added 2 points of his own and had a rebounds and Liapis added a point and had five rebounds.

"I think this team will come together and really play well this season," said Coach Mistic. "Hopefully the sooner, the better." he added.
