ST. CLOUD — Despite trailing by just two points at halftime, the Bemidji High School boys basketball team couldn’t keep pace with the No. 1 seed in Section 8-4A.

Top-seeded St. Cloud Tech went on an 14-3 run in the first three minutes of the second half to give itself some breathing room over the eighth-seeded Lumberjacks, and the Tigers went on to win 86-61 Tuesday night in St. Cloud.

Thanks to a strong first half from James Hendricks — the senior scored 13 of his team-high 24 points in the opening 17 minutes — the Lumberjacks (4-22) only trailed the Tigers (23-3) by two at the break.

However, an early Tech scoring outburst proved too much for BHS.

Tech scored the first eight points of the half before a Joe Strong 3-pointer helped the Jacks break their scoring drought.

However, the Tigers kept coming, especially Ethan Fruth. Fruth scored 22 of his game-high 38 in the second half. He led the Tigers with seven 3-pointers and five two-pointers.

Tech ended up outscoring Bemidji 50-27 in the second half en route to their big win.

Aside from Hendricks’ 24, two other Lumberjacks finished in double figures. Strong scored 18 and Collin Rutledge had 12.
