BEMIDJI — James Hendricks scored 34 points and grabbed eight rebounds but his performance wasn’t enough to give the Bemidji boys basketball team a victory as the Lumberjacks fell 81-63 Friday at home to St. Cloud Tech.

“James had a very good game but we have to get other players to follow suit,” said BHS coach Dan Ninham. “We battled and we were competitive. But we have to play better defense. We gave up 23 layups and that’s not good.”

Hendricks scored 18 points in the first half but his teammates contributed only six. At intermission the Jacks trailed 38-24 but in the second stanza Bemidji played St. Cloud Tech almost on even terms. The visitors held only a 43-39 advantage over the Beavers in the second half.

Hendricks continued his hot shooting as he nailed four 3-pointers and scored 16 points in the final 18 minutes.

Collin Rutledge finished with 13 points and Joe Strong had nine.
