Thursday night the teams staged a rematch in East Grand Forks and, to no one’s surprise, this contest wasn’t decided until the final few seconds.

BHS held a tenuous lead in the late going but the Green Wave overtook the Lumberjacks 59-58 with 1:30 to play when Jim Warmack connected from the paint. The home team continued to attack and six consecutive free throws down the stretch gave East Grand Forks a 65-62 victory.

“We played well for 32 of the 36 minutes but we did not have the poise to finish,” said BHS coach Dan Ninham.

Thursday’s loss was Bemidji’s fifth to open the season while East Grand Forks improved to 3-2, two of the wins coming at the expense of Bemidji.

Bemidji owned a 58-49 advantage after Jeremiah Huseby drained a 3-pointer and Connor McNallan scored from the right baseline with 5:23 remaining in the game. But Warmack sparked a comeback by the home team with a three-point play following a rebound bucket.

Ryan Hammargren followed with a trey and consecutive buckets by Warmack completed the comeback.

Bemidji is off until Dec. 27 when it plays in a tournament hosted by Tartan.
