Both sides on marriage amendment push for votes

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Those on both sides of the marriage amendment ballot question in Minnesota are pushing for votes with Election Day right around the corner.

After a long, costly campaign, Minnesotans will finally vote Tuesday on whether the state constitution should be amended to prohibit same-sex couples from legally marrying.

State and local leaders opposed to the amendment are visiting phone banks and volunteer centers in the Twin Cities Monday. U.S. Sen. Al Franken will join them later in the day. Minnesotans United says more than 25,000 volunteers have participated in get-out-the-vote efforts over the past week.

At pro-amendment Minnesota for Marriage headquarters in St. Anthony Park, political director Crystal Crocker said grace over an impromptu buffet of Mexican take-out Sunday for phone bank volunteers. Minnesota Public Radio News says an army of volunteers is calling identified supporters to urge them to vote Tuesday.
