Bonnie L. Anderson, 78, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes.

Bonnie was born to Walter and Cecile (Bakken) Gottsman on Jan. 15, 1931 in rural Park Rapids. She grew up and attended school in Park Rapids, graduating from Park Rapids High School in 1948. On Oct. 22, 1949 she married Jerald Anderson in Dorset, Minn. Over the years they lived in Wadena, Deer Creek and Chokio, Minn., and also Tucson, Ariz. While in Deer Creek, they owned and operated the Deer Creek Café.

In 1961, Bonnie and Jerald moved to Detroit Lakes, where she worked at Caulfield Studio for 25 years, and then at Dar's Photo for seven years. She later worked in the fabrics department at Wal-Mart for four and a half years, and was also a consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics for 17 years.

Bonnie was active at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, where she taught Sunday school, was a member of the Rebecca Guild, and sang with the Guild Singers for 30 years. Her hobbies included embroidery, crocheting, knitting and gardening. She was also known for her lefse baking. Bonnie loved people, and had the gift of making everyone feel special. Her true passions were her family and her lord.

Surviving Bonnie are her son, Jimmie Lee (DeAnn) Anderson of Frazee; four daughters, Carolyn (Clair) Wenger, of Detroit Lakes, Joan (Mark) Buchhop, of Grand Forks, N.D., Vivian (Marvin) Anderson of Frazee and Linda (Jim) Dammann of Schuyler, Neb.; 17 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; three sisters, Dianne (Norman) Peters of Detroit Lakes, Karen (Jim) Hagford of Spring Lake Park, Minn., and Karol (Gary) Winter of Detroit Lakes; three brothers, Donald (Delores) Gottsman of Detroit Lakes, Kenneth (Ruth) Gottsman of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and David (Angie) Gottsman of Park Rapids; as well as sisters-in-law DeAnne Gottsman, Marlene Gottsman and Joyce Gottsman.

Preceding Bonnie in death were her parents; husband Jerald (Jan. 7, 2006); and three brothers, Robert, Richard and Barry Gottsman.

Visitation will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 15 at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Deroit Lakes, followed by a 5 p.m. prayer service.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, March 16 at Zion Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Dan C. Abrahams officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.

Casket bearers will be Donald Gottsman, David Gottsman, Kenneth Gottsman, Norman Peters, Gary Winter and Jim Hagford. Honorary casket bearers will be Carolyn and Clair Wenger, Joan and Mark Buchhop, Vivian and Marvin Anderson, Jimmie and DeAnn Anderson, Linda and Jim Dammann as well as all of Bonnie's grandchildren and great grandchildren.
