Beltrami County Sheriff Keith Winger reported Tuesday morning that he and a Department of Natural Resources helicopter pilot found the body of Mark Neumann Monday afternoon in a thickly wooded area about one-half mile from Neumann's home on Wolf Lake Drive Southeast in southeastern Beltrami County.

Neumann had been missing since April 4. Winger stated in a press release that there are no signs of foul play and the cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.

Neumann, 54, was last seen at his residence, according to a news release from Winger.

A crew of approximately 25 members of law enforcement and emergency personnel conducted searches ground and air searches all week. However, evergreen trees in the area made his body difficult to locate.

Neumann's residence is located near the Mississippi River. Beltrami County Emergency Management Director Beryl Wernberg said that ice still covers portions of the river, making a water search difficult. The river has not been dragged, but she said a member of Neumann's family conducted a search by kayak. That search also turned up empty.

The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, along with assistance from Department of Natural Resources Forestry, Leech Lake DNR, DNR Enforcement, Beltrami County Mounted Posse, Sheriff's Community Guard, Paul Bunyan Amateur Radio Club, Cass Lake First Responders, Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Beltrami County Geographical Information Systems, neighbors and others, were involved in the search.
