Is board decision setting a precedent?
After reading that the Beltrami County commissioners, minus one, voted to reward Kay Mack for a job well done, I quickly emailed them and expressed my concern regarding the reward. I then decided to forget it – it was done and time to put it out of my mind.
But after reading the last letter to the editor (Dec. 16 written by William Smith), I decided I had to respond. I respect his opinion and do agree that Kay did an outstanding job, After all, the voters kept voting her in. One has to keep in mind Kay was an elected official and not a county employee and could not accrue any vacation hours.
My question is if the voters decide to replace another elected person, should that person be compensated by the commissioners?
I firmly believe Mr. Lucachick’s “no” vote was the correct vote.
