BMS students compete at state

Elisabeth Byers and Elena Sewal, eighth-graders at Bemidji Middle School, won a creativity award for their group exhibit titled "Hokori O. Matsu Hold onto Your Pride: Mineko Iwasaki" May 2 at the state History Day competition.

The competition was held at the University of Minnesota's Twin Cities campus.

Also competing from BMS at state were seventh-graders Amanda Swenson and Stephanie Bunich and sixth-grader Delaney Reitveld.

Swenson's individual exhibit was titled "Sojourner Truth: A Life & Legacy of Faith." Bunich's individual documentary was titled "Miss Jane Pittman: An Icon of African American History in America." Reitveld's individual documentary was titled "Queen Liliokalani: Legacy of Hawaii."
