The Bemidji High girls soccer team scored an important win Thursday, shading Detroit Lakes 3-2 in overtime on the losers field.
The pair meet again at Bemidji Oct. 9.
The win upped Bemidji to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Lakes to Prairie Conference.
They face two conference games next week heading to East Grand Forks Tuesday and returning home to entertain Crookston Thursday.
Bemidji never trailed Thursday taking leads of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 and making the third lead stand up.
Nicole Ramos played one of her finest games making a season-high 26 stops. Marta Borgeson needed only 16 for the home team. Caitlyn Blotske gave Bemidji its first lead converting a crossing pass from Alexa Wang at the 3 minute mark.
DL tied it four minutes later on an Alyssa Boyle score only to see Bemidji regain the lead at 14:00 when Blotske connected again, this time unassisted on a 30 yarder from the left side.
But the Lakers matched this goal with five minutes left to play on a goal by Emma Butzer.
DL held a 14-9 shots lead at the break though Bemidji was getting the higher percentage shots.
That held up in the second 40 minutes which ended in a scoreless stalemate.
But one minute into the first extra period, Erin Booth got the game winner banging home a rebound at the left corner. Ramos did the rest, stymieing any DL chances of tying the game a third time to preserve the win.
"We needed this game" said Coach Kelly Schoonover. "They out shot us but we had by far the better scoring chances during the day."
The B Team fell to 1-2 with a 2-1 setback with Emma Brokl scoring off a Brianna Glynn pass for the only goal, that coming between two by the home team.
Whitney Morin turned back 15 shots. Bemidji made only seven on Courtney Gray who made six saves.
