Blaze, apparently accidental, whips through Grant Valley home

GRANT VALLEY TOWNSHIP - A home and its contents here sustained more than $100,000 in damages after a fire engulfed it Friday night.

Bemidji and Solway firefighters responded to a home in hte 5000 block of Mid-Valley Lane Northwest after receiving a call at 8:01 p.m.

A news release said Bemidji firefighters arrived on scene to find the home's attached garage ablaze and the fire moving into the home. Bemidji Fire Chief David Hoefer said firefighters quickly knocked down the fire.

He said 27 firefighters used three fire engines and four water tenders at the fire. Firefighters from both departments spent about four hours on scene and no injuries were reported.

"The cause of the fire appears to be accidental in nature," Hoefer said in the release.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, Bemidji Ambulance Service, Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office and Beltrami Electric Cooperative assisted at the scene.

No other details were immediately available.
