Well, Happy New Year to all! I hope your holidays were as wonderful as mine. Now that they are over, it is time to get down to work at the center.

Along with the new year also comes the time for us to pay our dues.

The dues are only $5 and it is well worth the money. We are very fortunate to have a facility like this in our community.

The board would like to thank Jean Slindee for all her years of service on the board. I was asked to fill in for Jean the past three months and have found it to be very rewarding and educational.

Some of the duties that I have take over for her are fundraising and building rental.

If anyone wishes to rent the center for an event, please contact me at 218-553-0298 or 835-8791.

As some of you may well know, I do go to southern Minnesota often so keep both of those numbers handy!

The first fundraiser I took over was the omelette, craft and bake sale. Sorry that were not omelettes at the fundraiser.

Along with being new at this position, I tried something new. I need feed back both positive and negative comments from the community. I am here to serve and need to know the needs and wants of the area.

I felt that not having to wait in line was the best advantage of having the egg bake. The biggest disadvantage was that by having the pans on heaters, it made the bottom of the egg bake very dark and dry.

Feel free to let me know about your feelings and ideas. We have to be open to change and respect other people's ideas.

Again, being the new kid on the block, I am going to try something new again.

On Jan. 20, I will be doing a soup and sandwich lunch. Yes, lunch! We will be serving from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

In the winter months, it gets dark so early and it is so cold so I want to see if the noon hour works best for our area.

Please know that after lunch, you are free to stay at the center until 4 p.m. and do puzzles, play cards or Scrabble or just visit with someone you have not seen in a while.

Don't forget about our schedule of events that happen weekly.

The doors are open and coffee is always on from 9-11 a.m. and from 1-4 p.m.

The following events happen daily:

Mondays, crafts

Tuesdays, Bingo

Wednesdays, Whist

Thursdays, Scrabble

Fridayss, crafts

The first Saturday of each month, we have a jam session and the third Thursday of the month, we have some type of meal for the community.

We can do more if you like. We need ideas, input and help in this area.

Keep warm and thank you for allowing me into your reading.
