Blackduck man sentenced for January high-speed chase
BEMIDJI — Jeramie Ray Pilecki was sentenced to four years probation Monday for a January car chase with police that reached speeds near 100 mph.
Pilecki, 36, of Blackduck, suffered a broken back after he crashed his vehicle north of Bemidji on Jan. 9. He told Beltrami District Judge John Melbye on Monday that multiple surgeries were required as a result of the injuries he sustained that night. Pilecki also told the judge that after being released from the hospital, he turned himself in on the outstanding warrant that resulted from the chase.
Pilecki’s court-appointed attorney, John Schmid, told the court that the chase followed a “psychological episode” and Pilecki said his actions that night were “completely out of character.”
Pilecki must also pay a $1,000 fine.
