With a series of meetings with staff and employees, Angel Normandin undertook her new assignment as administrator of the Good Samaritan Society's Blackduck facility Jan. 4.


Normandin was introduced at a reception a day earlier and was welcomed to the community by workers and guests. In turn, she welcomed them and extended an invitation to visit the facility.

A native of Crookston and a graduate of the university there, Normandin and her husband, Rick, now make their home in Bagley with their children, daughters, Jenna, 17 and Rachelle, 12 and son, Izack, 15.

Meeting with staff and workers, Normandin emphasized her pleasure at finding how strong each of them was in their jobs.

"If there are gaps in what we're doing," she said, "they'll help find them and fill them. They're all committed, they're all strong in what they're doing."

For the next month of two, Normandin plans to devote much of her time getting acquainted with the area.

"My door will be open and I'll try to be available 24/7," she told a visitor. Simultaneously, she will continue her responsibility in the same administrative capacity for the Society's home in Clearbrook and for the Home Health Care Agency in Bemidji, a joint venture of the Blackduck and Clearbrook nursing homes.

She's familiar with many of the practices and procedures in Blackduck and hopes to provide increased continuity between the facilities and operation of the two homes.

Normandin added to her 10 years experience with the Good Samaritan Society, including intern work at their nursing homes in Paynesville and Watkins, a Master's degree in Health Administration.

She brings that background to her new job, together with evident enthusiasm for the chance to meet its challenges. The opportunity to expand relationships in the area, to meet with her advisory board members and to work with other groups and agencies with common interests; all of this elicits a warm smile and a 'can-do' handshake.

Then, greeting residents along the way, she was off to another meeting.
