Blackduck Development Corporation explores website options
The Blackduck Development Corporation recently decided to end its business with Anchor Marketing, who had been managing the city’s website, www.blackduckmn.com.
“I thought it was, in the long run, worth it,” said Dwight Kalvig, a member of the BDC, of working with Anchor Marketing. “But I think at this stage to have someone maintain our website at that kind of price it just got to be ridiculous.”
With that decision, the BDC is now trying to plan the next steps for the website and its online presence.
Community facilitator Ryan Grow, also a member of the BDC, explored businesses within the Bemidji area that could help maintain the website. When Grow approached businesses, he wasn’t sure if the BDC wanted to redevelop the website entirely or have them help with maintenance of the site.
City administrator Christina Regas noted that the monthly hosting prices of those that Grow received estimates from were a great deal less expensive than the prices at Anchor Marketing.
“We need to look at our site as it is existingly and decide as a collective what we like about it the most and what we don’t like about it the most so we have a platform to go to these companies and say, ‘This is what we need help with,’” Regas said.
A committee of Grow, Regas, Charlie Anderson and Andra Vaughn was recommended to gather insight on what the BDC would look for in an online presence.
It was discussed that the community would pool together in a website that would represent the BDC, the city of Blackduck, the Blackduck Chamber of Commerce and possibly the Blackduck School District. The school might keep its current website and a link that would go to it would be provided.
The BDC leaned toward pooling costs from each of those entities for upkeep of the website.
“I think it would be smart to pool our resources,” said Wally Schoeb, superintendent of the Blackduck School District and also a member of the BDC.
The next meeting of the BDC will be held on June 11 at the Good Samaritan Society of Blackduck.
