BLACKDUCK — The Blackduck baseball community will gather at 2 p.m. today to celebrate the completion of the Little League complex renovations.
With help from many people and organizations, the community was able to compliment a $10,000 grant from the Minnesota Twins Community Fund by raising $18,000 and donating more than $10,000 of time and labor for the project.
The fundraising began in the fall of 2011 and the construction phase of the project started last August.
“The bulk of the work is now finished,” said Tami Nendick who is a member of the Blackduck Summer Baseball board of directors. “What we have left to do is the aesthetics and the top dressing.”
The project included reconstructing three infields and an outfield. Working on the other two outfields is a future project.
“Youth baseball in Blackduck is a long-standing program,” Nendkick said. “We’ve had youth baseball for more than 30 years.”
All of the former players and anyone who has been associated with the Blackduck Youth Baseball is invited to today’s celebration.
“We will meet at the fields at 2 p.m. and have a barbeque, visit and say thank you to all who helped make the project a reality,” Nendick said. “We have 32 years of youth baseball to honor.”
