Birchmont champ Amy Anderson wins U.S. Junior Girls title
BEDMINSTER, N.J. (AP) -- Amy Anderson of Oxbow, N.D., won the Ladies Championship at the 2008 Birchmont golf tournament in Bemidji. Now she is a national champion as well.
Anderson defeated Kimberly Kim of Hilo, Hawaii, 6 and 5 Saturday to claim the U.S. Junior Girls championship at Trump National Golf Club.
Anderson held the upper hand for most of the morning 18 holes, gaining a 4-up lead on two occasions. She lost 18 with a bogey, but came back to win the first hole in the afternoon round. She went on to win Nos. 3, 4, 8 and 10 to take a 7-up lead before closing it out on the 13th hole.
Anderson was last year's Birchmont Ladies Champion at Bemidji Town & Country Club. She is not entered into the field for next week's Birchmont. Her brother Nathan, who was the 2008 Birchmont Men's Champ, is serving as caddy.
