Bike sharing to expand to Bemidji
BEMIDJI —A Minneapolis nonprofit that promotes bike-sharing plans to expand into Bemidji next summer.
Nice Ride Minnesota provides bicycles to subscribers by placing them at stations located throughout select cities. The nonprofit, established in 2008 in Minneapolis, now is working toward a May rollout in Bemidji, the nonprofit told the Pioneer Thursday afternoon by email.
Plans are still in the early stages, but Nice Ride anticipates rolling out 200 bicycles locally, 100 in and around the Bemidji State University for semester-long rentals and another 100 in as many as six stations throughout town, according to the email.
Nice Ride Minnesota reported its Bemidji stations have yet to be identified but it is looking at downtown locations as well as BSU, the Hampton Inn & Suites and the Sanford Center.
The nonprofit will work with stakeholders to assess local areas in determining the most convenient locations, the email stated.
