Bigfork woman dies following New Year's Eve crash

DULUTH – A woman who was a passenger in a fatal accident on New Year’s Eve died Thursday at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth.

According to a release from the Minnesota State Patrol, Nora M. Emery, 24, of Bigfork died as a result of injuries she suffered Dec. 31 in an accident 12 miles north of Deer river.

The driver of the vehicle, Samuel W. Deotis, 27, of Bigfork died that night.

The pair were southbound on Highway 6 when Deotis made a left turn and was struck by a semi.

Emery was flown to St. Mary’s for treatment following the accident. The 58-year-old man driving the semi was unharmed.
