"We love being at home," said BHS girls coach Chris Lehman. "I've been here six years and it took me four years to arrange for a home meet. It's been hard work getting teams because this is the time that teams are in their conference and section meets but we had an open date and so did the other schools.

"This field will have four quality teams," Lehman continued. "Last year the coaches all loved being here and we're excited to have them return."

"It's huge being at home," said boys coach Steve Sneide. "We've been travelling so much this spring and it is nice to be staying home and not having to drive three hours after competing."

Lehman is anxious to see how his athletes will compete in their final opportunity to impress the coaching staff prior to the section meet.

"Only three girls can compete in an event next week so there is intense competition for those spots," he said. "We want to determine who will be on our section team and this is the final chance to make it."

The boys athletes also will be vying for section positions and Sneide is letting some of his runners pick the events they want to showcase.

"Some of the kids wanted to have the opportunity to prove that they deserve to be on the section team in a particular event so I'm giving them the chance," Sneide said.

"Our key guys will run their usual events as tune-ups for the section but others are trying to make the section team."

The section track meet will be June 2 and June 5 at Sauk Rapids.

Golf

Bemidji's golf teams will also be in action today as the girls head to Detroit Lakes and the boys will take a split squad to Detroit Lakes and to Greystone in Sauk Centre.

The girls were second at Friday's three-team meet at Longbow and the Jacks shot 365. Detroit Lakes won with 353 and Moorhead was a distant third with 395.

Individually, Shelby Sauer shot 86, Emily Frosaker 88, Meg Phelps 91, Katelyn Craft 100, Amy Frosaker 101 and Aimee Sandquist 103.

The boys have added a trip to Greystone, the site of the section meet, to Tuesday's schedule. The section team will compete there while the varsity golfers who did not make the section team will be at Detroit Lakes.
