BHS track: Jacks boys win Laker invitational

The boys scored their second victory of the season, the first since the Little Amik-II during the indoor season.

It was a two team battle in the small, six-team field with Bemidji rolling up 181½ points to 157½ for the host Lakers. Park Rapids was a distant third with 65 trailed by Frazee, Fergus Falls and Thief River.

Bemidji unleashed its three-pronged senior attack with Joe Kingery leading the way with 26½ points while Nate McGriff and Travis Greenwaldt had 20½, McGriff competing in only three events.

Kingery wop the high jump and finished second in the triple jump and discus while getting a half point for tying for fifth in the long jump.

McGriff won the long jump took second in the 200 and ran a leg on the winning 4 x 8 relay.

Greenwaldt was second in the 100, third in the 200, fourth in the shot and ran a leg on the winning 4 x 2 relay.

Other double figure scorers were Zac Oelrich, Erik Truedson, Jake Robinson, Grant Mitchell and John Buckanaga.

Mitchell won the 400, Truedson took the 3200 and Luke Bruns in the pole vault at 12-0.

Skyler Jackson of Frazee won the 100, 200 and triple jump while Jake Grimes of Park Rapids swept the hurdles and Lars Rennevik of Fergus the shot and discus.

Other second places went to Oelrich in the 800, Alex Schoneberger in the 1600 and Robinson in the pole vault.

Robinson also was third in the intermediate hurdles and Gentri Jordan in the long jump.

Bemidji went 1-3-5-6 in that event for 18½ points.

Its best event was the 800 where it finished 1-2-4-5 for 24.

Next up for the Jacks will be the True Team Sectional at Sauk Rapids, a meet in which the Jacks lack of depth has prevented it from challenging the section leaders since its inception.
