The Bemidji tennis team made only its second home appearance Tuesday but the home-court did not prove to be an advantage as the Lumberjacks lost 4-3 to Detroit Lakes and 4-3 to East Grand Forks.

BHS coach Mark Fodness was hoping for better results although both matches could have gone either way.

"Against Detroit Lakes there were four tie-breakers and we lost all four," the coach said. "And against East Grand Forks there were two more tie-breakers and we split.

"We had the kids on the court to win both matches but we didn't know how to put our opponents away."

Bemidji swept the doubles in the EGF match but the visitors prevailed in the four singles battles.

Each of the singles matches was decided in two sets but Alex Hess lost his first set at second singles in a tie-breaker and Noah Holter rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the second set at fourth singles to extend it to 6-4.

In doubles action Kyle Fodness and Adam Holter won 6-2, 6-3, Craig Lindseth teamed with Jack Boyer for a 6-3, 7-6 (12-10) victory and Matt Chatterton and Matt Armstrong combined for a 6-1, 6-3 win.

In Tuesday's opener Detroit Lakes won four tie-breakers, including three representing decisive final sets, and handed the Lumberjacks a 4-3 defeat.

The key matches came at second singles, first doubles and second doubles as the Lakers won third-set tiebreakers.

"We let Detroit Lakes off the hook," said BHS coach Mark Fodness. "We lost four tiebreakers and two of them came in matches where we won the first set. We couldn't finish the matches and that is disappointing."

Bemidji's victories all came at singles. Rickert prevailed 6-3, 6-3 at first singles, Korczak won 6-3, 6-1 at third and Noah Holter posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory at fourth.

At second singles Hess lost 7-6 (7-1), 3-6, (13-11).

In doubles action, Fodness and Adam Holter dropped a 3-6, 6-1, (10-8) decision, Lindseth and Boyer fell 0-6, 6-3, (10-6) and the team of Tim Paulus and Zach Hewitt stumbled 6-2, 6-1.

The Jacks will return to action Friday when they face Fergus Falls and Moorhead at Fergus Falls.
