The postseason has begun for the Bemidji fall sports teams as the Lumberjacks tennis squad will be in Sartell today for the first two rounds of the 8AA team tournament and the opening round of the individual meet.
Based on the team seedings, Bemidji is favored to win the North half of the section and be one of two teams advancing to meet the South representatives.
As a reward for being seeding No. 1 the Lumberjacks also have a bye in today's first round. BHS will begin play in the quarterfinals against the winner of today's earlier match between No. 4 seed Fergus Falls and No. 5 Moorhead.
Today's other first-round contests pit No. 2 Alexandria against No. 7 Little Falls and No. 3 Brainerd against No. 6 Detroit Lakes. The winners of those matches will battle in today's other quarterfinal.
BHS coach Mark Fodness will not alter his team lineup for the tournament. The singles players will be Cortne Solberg at first, Jessica Solberg at second, Amy Frosaker at third and Claudia Bellew at fourth.
In doubles, Emma Nielsen will combine with Katie Ditmanson, Haley Pollock will play with Mackenzie Schultz and Claire Baumgartner will be matched with Francesca Huerd.
Today's survivors will return to Sartell Tuesday for the completion of the 8AA team tournament and two more rounds of the individual meet.
The cross country teams head to Alexandria today. The varsity squads have been off since Sept. 25 when they competed at the University of Minnesota meet.
Among the teams expected to join the Lumberjacks are Willmar, New Prague, Buffalo, Chaska, Apollo, Rocori, Prior Lake, Prior Lake, Cathedral, Cretin-Derham Hall, Sartell and Monticello.
The regular season will come to an end today at Moorhead for the boys soccer team.
Bemidji will take a 12-3-1 record into the 1 p.m. game and is hoping to complete a season sweep of the Spuds. On Sept. 28 the Lumberjacks blanked Moorhead 2-0 in Bemidji.
BHS is hoping to play well and enter the playoffs on a positive note. The postseason begins Tuesday and Bemidji is expected to receive the No. 2 seed behind Hillcrest Lutheran Academy.
The Lumberjacks are 12-1-1 in their last 14 games. Overall they have a 12-3-1 record and two of the losses came at the hands of Hillcrest, both by 2-1 scores.
