BHS student airlifted to Fargo after crash

BEMIDJI – A Bemidji High School student was airlifted to the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, N.D. after crashing her car on the way to class Tuesday morning.

The student, Mariah Wolf, was listed in guarded condition Tuesday afternoon, which means she’s conscious, her vital signs are stable and her indicators are favorable, said hospital spokesman Darren Huber.

Sheriff’s deputies found the 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck in the trees on the west side of Fern Lake Road Southwest, just south of Becida Road Southwest a little after 7 a.m., according to a news release from the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office. The truck was on its side with the cab crushed by a tree, leaving Wolf trapped.

She was rescued by Bemidji firefighters using the jaws of life, according to the release.

Brian Stefanich, principal at BHS, said students and friends were aware of the incident.

“They’re obviously concerned,” he said.
