BHS speakers take fifth in Grand Rapids

The Blackduck Drakes Speech team placed fifth in a 25-team tournament in Grand Rapids on Saint Patrick's Day.

It was a very difficult meet with speakers in state quality form as we approach the end of the competitive season. The Blackduck team managed to get 8 speakers into finals while several just missed the chance and received honorable mention ribbons.

Tournament champions were Matthew Jedlicka in Drama and Maile Olson in Original Oratory.

Other medalists included Michaela Holmgren placing third in Storytelling; Madison Stomberg, fourth in Creative Expression; Julia Bogucki, fourth in Drama; Madison Stelton took the fifth place medal in Creative Expression and two speakers won sixth place medals Jung in Informative Speaking and Katie O'Rourke in Prose.

Sasha Pfannenstein received a blue honorable mention ribbon in Drama andthose receiving honorable mention reds were: Jenna Nestberg in Humor and Madison Liapis in Informative Speaking.

The Drakes host a home meet this March 24 a full team performance open house which is open to the public March 27 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the high school multi-purpose room.
