The Bemidji High girls softball team made a long trip for a short game Monday, bombarding Grand Forks Red River 23-3 in five frames on the losers' diamond.

It lifted Brad Takkunen's team to11-1 on the year.

Today it hosts Thief River Falls at 4:30 in a single game, reduced from a scheduled double header at Thief River's request due to a music conflict.

The two schools had added the second game to make up for postponements against other teams that could not be rescheduled.

Chelsea Yost will go for her seventh win in that game. ,She beat the Prowlers 5-4 last year.

Erika Weimann was the beneficiary of the 19 hit barrage Monday to gain her first win of the year.

She settled down after yielding three runs in the first inning to hurl a four hitter, fanning five and walking none.

Bemidji gave her five runs before she ever threw a pitch.

It matched the Roughriders three with three in the second including a monster two run homer by Paige Jensen.

Two more in the third and three in the fourth widened the gap to 13-3.

To make things certain, however, Bemidji ran home 10 more in the fifth to turn the game into a rout.

Almost every player had one hit as Takkunen cleared the bench early.

Kaia Sele had three with a triple and double.

Emily Larson, Chelsea Johnson and Brittany Thompson added two with Larson's including a double and Johnson driving home four runs.

Jensen also had four rbi in the game.

The 23 runs and 19 hits were a season high and likely a record for many past seasons.

It expects a far tougher battle against the Prowlers today.
