BHS Nordic Skiing: Drewes, Manske, Holter, Sagedahl and Lee qualify for state tournament
The Bemidji Nordic ski teams both came up one step short Wednesday at the Section 8 ski meet at Camp Ripley.
But they qualified five individuals for next week's state meet at Giants Ridge.
Little Falls edged Bemidji by eight points to take the boys crown, scoring 3756 to 368 for the Jacks.
Brainerd was third at 344 with Detroit Lakes and Alexandria completing the top five in a field of 10.
Jake Richards of DL was the individual winner, completing the 10k pursuit course in 31.07.
Matt Lee of Bemidji was eight seconds behind, beating Richards by four seconds in the classical leg but trailing by 12 in the freestyle.
Adam Kempenich of Little Falls was third, Dylan Ramstad-Skoyles of DL fourth with Zean Baker of Brainerd rounding out the top five.
Tony Sagedahl was ninth and Adam Holter 12 to earn state spots. The first eight finishers, not on the championship team, go to the state. Sagedahl was sixth and Holter eighth among this group.
Kyle Sagedahl was ninth among this group and Sam Dwyer 11.
They finished 13 and 15 overall with Eli Rassler 25 and Lucas Brokl 40. C.J. Merhar. Trek North's lone skier, was 29.
Other state qualifiers included the Detroit Lakes pair,, Deer River's Kevin Drotts and Austin McCoy of Alexandria.
Little Falls took the girls title by 11 points over Bemidji with 378 points to 367 for Bemidji. Brained, Detroit Lakes and Alexandria were the next three.
Sophomore Summer Ellefson of the Ellefson Home School retained her title in 35:37 over Manon Gammon-Deering of Little Falls winning by 1:16.
Molly Manske and Bailey Drewes of Bemidji were 3-4,. Six seconds apart with Manske six behind Gammon-Deering. Mara Hauer of Little Falls rounded out the top five.
Other state entrants were Amanda Finstad of Brainerd, Mindy Drotts of Deer River, Berit Ramstad-Skoyles of DL, Sarah Peper of Alex and Callie Smith of Mora.
Finstad and Drotts rounded out the top five.
Like Kyle Sagedahl, Laura Yourd finished one spot away from the state, the ninth finisher not a member of the Little Falls team. She was 14 overall with Alicia Papke-Larson 16 and Tiffany Mason 19 in a field of 46.
Bemidji will enter teams in both Coaches Relays Wednesday with Kyle Sagedahl, Dwyer, Rassler and Brokl making up the boys unit and Papke-Larson, Yourd, Mason and either Kim Truedson or Kristina Lengerhuis composing the girls 4 x 3 team.
