BHS girls track and field: Jacks take third at Detroit Lakes Invite

The Bemidji High girls track team took third place at the Detroit Lakes Invitational last Friday.

The host Lakers won with 174 points to 139 for Fergus Falls. Bemidji had 102 with Park Rapids, Frazee and Thief River Falls trailing.

Bemidji entered only a partial squad with many runners in different events than those in which they normally run .

Results of the Friday meet were received Wednesday by the Bemidji coaching staff.

The best event for Bemidji was the 800 where Bailey Drewes, Kim Truedson, Sara Heisler and Emily Lawrence ran 1-2-3-4 for 28 points.

Jessy Bruns won the triple jump for Bemidji's only other win.

Selina Gilbertson added 14 with a second in the discus and third in the shot.

Abby Hendricks scored another 14 with a second in the high hurdles and third in the intermediates.

Another 14 came from the relays where Bemidji was third in the 800 and fourth in the 400 and 3200. It did not enter the 1600.

Other top finishes found Tiffany Mason third in the pole vault while Katie Verchota was fourth in the discus and fifth in the shot.

Bemidji had no entrants in the distances.

Ally Nielsen of DL was the only double winner, taking the shot and discus.
