The Bemidji girls tennis team ran its dual-meet winning streak to 14 matches and its overall record to 14-3 Friday as the Lumberjacks blanked Moorhead 7-0 in the opening round of the Section 8AA tournament in Sartell.
Friday's win vaulted BHS into today's section quarterfinals and a match against Alexandria. The Cardinals disposed of Moorhead 6-1 Friday.
Bemidji entered the tournament seeded second in the North Sub-Section while Alexandria is ranked third. Detroit Lakes was the seventh seed.
If the Jacks dispose of Alexandria in today's noon contest they will meet either St. Cloud Tech, the top seed from the South Sub-Section, or Willmar which was the No. 4 seed from the South.
That winner will play for the Section 8AA title tonight in Sartell.
Bemidji wasn't tested against Detroit Lakes as the Lumberjacks prevailed in straight sets in each individual match.
Jessica Solberg won 6-0, 6-1 at first singles while Amy Frosaker was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at second, Claudia Bellew coasted to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at third and MacKenzie Schultz battered her foe 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles play, Emma Nielsen and Katie Ditmanson won 6-0, 6-1, Claire Baumgartner and Olivia Dickinson breezed to a 6-3, 6-1 win and the third doubles tandem of Francesca Huerd and Annika Johnson cruised 6-1, 6-3.
"It was a good start to the post-season," Bemidji coach Mark Fodness said of Friday's victory. "Everybody went about their business and did what they were supposed to do. They focused on their jobs.
"We need four victories to win the section and Friday we counted off one of them," Fodness added.
