BHS girls tennis sweeps Thief River Falls

Jessica Solberg posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at first singles and her teammates followed her lead as the Bemidji girls tennis team blanked Thief River Falls 7-0 Thursday on the BHS courts.

Solberg had no trouble defeating Karlee Jorgenson. At second singles Claudia Bellew also coasted as she swept Sylvia Marolt 6-1, 6-1.

Lumberjacks coach Mark Fodness experimented with his lineup and gave some of his reserves the opportunity to test themselves at the varsity level.

Among those who made the move were Alexis Konecne at third singles and Danika Huerd at fourth singles. Both girls responded as Konecne rallied for a 4-6, 6-0, (10-4) victory and Huerd posted a 7-5, 6-2 triumph.

In doubles action Emma Nielsen and Katie Ditmanson prevailed 6-2, 7-6 (7-3), Jenna Lee and Olivia Dickinson won 6-1, 6-1 and Francesca Huerd teamed with Lauren Lund for a 6-1, 6-1 win at third doubles.

BHS improved to 5-3 in dual action. Saturday the Jacks head to Hibbing for a tournament.
