BHS girls soccer team falls 2-0 to St. Cloud Cathedral
Thursday the Bemidji girls soccer team battered Crookston 9-1 in Bemidji. Saturday the Lumberjacks lost 2-0 at St. Cloud Cathedral but Lumberjacks coach Kelly Schoonover was much more impressed by her team's play in the loss.
"It was a great game. It was the type of game that is fun to watch and play in," Schoonover said. "Cathedral is a very good team and is fast and aggressive. But we never backed down and definitely were able to play with them."
Each team fired 14 shots on net. The difference was that St. Cloud Cathedral connected on two of its shots while the Jacks couldn't slip a shot past Crusader goalie Moriah Schroeder.
"We played aggressively and created the scoring opportunities," Schoonover said. "We also had many shots that just went wide or over the net."
The Crusaders opened the scoring 27 minutes into the action and added their second goal 24 minutes into the second half.
Casey Palmer had a solid night in the Bemidji net as she stopped six shots in each half. Schroeder finished with 14 saves.
"As a player you learn so much more in a game like this than you do in a 9-1 win," Schoonover said. "Every move we made was pressured. There was high intensity all game long and being in those types of games helps the players and the team improve."
Bemidji, 4-2, will resume its schedule Thursday at Grand Rapids.
