"We battled the entire game," said BHS coach Kelly Schoonover whose team improved to 5-2.

"Casey had a fantastic game. We were outshot by quite a bit but Casey was on her game."

Palmer had 18 saves in the first half while the Jacks sent six at Thunderhawks goalie Lydia Aultman. Bemidji scored on two of those shots, however.

Josie Spry opened the scoring 19 minutes into the game when she connected on the rebound of Caitlin Blotske's shot.

At the 25-minute mark Erin Booth found the net with a perfectly placed 18-yard shot.

The home team closed to within 2-1 with two minutes remaining in the half but that was the only goal Palmer would allow, despite facing 14 second-half shots.

"It was a very aggressive, very physical game," Schoonover said. "We went neck-and-neck with Grand Rapids and never backed down.

"We were happy to walk away with a win but we truly earned this victory. The girls worked hard, battled and deserved to win," the coach said.

Bemidji hopes to repeat Thursday's performance when it hosts Moorhead 1 p.m. Saturday.
