BHS girls hockey team finds scoring touch in win over Brainerd-Little Falls
After a lackluster first period, Bemidji found its scoring touch in a 7-1 rout of Brainerd-Little Falls in girls hockey Thursday night at the Sanford Center.
"We came out a little flat and we were out competed," Bemidji head coach Bob Brink said. "We put forth a good effort after that."
Both teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period, but Bemidji scored six-straight goals to run away with a victory.
"I think it just a matter of paying attention to the little things," Brink said. "We figured out what to do."
Senior forward Allie Lapp picked up a hat trick to lead the Lumberjacks. Lapp scored her first goal the second period and opened the third period with two consecutive goals.
"Allie (Lapp) had a great game," Brink said. "She controls the puck so well, especially in traffic."
Lapp also assisted on the final goal of the game, scored by Allie Heifort. Heifort finished the game with two goals and one assist.
Francesca Huerd scored the eventual game-deciding goal in the second period. Huerd beat Brainerd-Little Falls goalie Jodi Bertrand on her blocker side with a high shot from the slot.
Bemidji finished with 30 shots on goal. The Lumberjacks play next at 3 p.m. in Detroit Lakes.
