Fires burn as protesters march on highway as Dakota Access Pipeline camp deadline arrives

BHS girls golf team takes sixth in opening meet

Meg Phelps carded rounds of 45-46-91 on the 36-36-72 Monticello Country Club layout to power the Bemidji girls golf team to sixth place at Wednesday's 17- team Hutchinson Invitational.

"Considering this is the first time we've been on a course this spring we did very well," said BHS coach Jeff Nelson whose team shot 396.

Hailey Hinners shot 47-48-95 for the Lumberjacks while Erin Buckanaga fashioned rounds of 49-50-99 and Morgan Miller shot 53-58-111.

Completing Bemidji's individual scores were Savanna Hanson's 64-56-120 and McKenzie Schultz' 67-63-130.

"We have hit a few balls behind the school but it was nice to finally be on a course," Phelps said. "The Monticello course just opened but it was in good shape. There were a few piles of snow but they let us play winter rules including pick and place.

"I know where I could have made up a few strokes but for the first time on a course this year I think it was a good start for us," Phelps added.

Bemidji will return to action April 16 at Nisswa.
