The shorthanded Bemidji High girls golf team made its first trip to the Upper Range Thursday to take fifth place at The Quarry.
Playing the Virginia Invitational in a 20-team field, Bemidji was missing Emily Frosaker from its top four to a school commitment.
With her on the course, Bemidji might well have challenged for second.
Grand Rapids won with a 371 with Hibbing second at 392 Hermantown third at 396 and Virginia fourth at 397.
Bemidji finished at 410 one stroke ahead of Duluth East.
Shelby Sauer paced Bemidji with a 96, 12 strokes off the medalist from Duluth East.
Megan Phelps had 98, Kelsey Bretschneider 101 and Erin Buckanaga 115 to complete the scoring.
The kickers were Marissa Loch and Aimee Sandquist at 127.
The girls return to the Range Monday to play The Wilderness in Tower.
