BHS girls golf team finishes sixth at Long Prairie
Meg Phelps shot 43-45-88 at the par-73 course in Long Prairie to lead the Bemidji girls golf team to sixth place at Friday's 12-team Long Prairie Invitational.
The meet was held on the course which will be home to the section meet later this spring. The Lumberjacks used Friday's round as an opportunity to become more accustomed to the playing conditions they will encounter at sections.
"The course is long and you have to concentrate on every single shot," Phelps said. "There is a booby trap on every shot. If you keep it straight and hit the fairways you'll be fine. But if you stray off the fairway you'll find a hazard."
Alexandria took Friday's team title with 353 and St. Cloud Apollo was second with 363. Bemidji finished at 394.
Lexie Dollang of Buffalo was the medalist with an 80. Phelps finished at 88 and was the only Lumberjack to break 100. Megan Dondelinger carded a 100,
Kelsey Isaacson shot 102, Katelin Craft 104, Amy Frosaker 108 and Erin Buckanaga 112.
"It was overcast and we played in a steady, strong wind," Phelps said.
Bemidji will be back in action today as it competes at the Staples Invitational at The Vintage.
