Bemidji Minnesota P.O. Box 455 56619

Bemidji High sports fans will have to take their pick today with the Jacks baseball and softball teams both listed for home games.

It marks the fourth time this year that has occurred but may be the first where the weather has not intervened.

And even that is not certain with rain predicted for the day that may wipe out one or both contests.

The baseball team has Fergus Falls as its foe in a 4:30 game at BSU.

The girls face a key section battle with unbeaten Brainerd.

The boys golf team will be at the Park Rapids scramble to round out the day.

The baseball team is looking to snap a three game losing streak that has dropped its record to 6-5.

Coach Mike Fogelson will send righthander Tyler Follis to the hill today with Jeremiah Graves listed for first relief.

Follis is 0-1 in two previous starts, allowing six earned runs in nine innings while fanning six and walking three. He left during a five-run fourth against Eagan Saturday in a 6-4 setback.

Billy Statton will be behind the plate with Matt Hietala, Graves, Cody Rutledge and Sol Schneider around the infield and Derek Lofgren, Simon Anderson and Tony Baumgartner in the outfield.

The B Team brings a 5-3 mark to its game which will be played at the Arena.

The freshmen are 12-1 and will face the Otters at Sagedahl. Their Monday twin bill with Grand Rapids was cancelled when the Hawks were unable to field a team.

Softball feature

Weather wiped out the girls softball game Thursday at Moorhead. No new date has yet been announced.

The team stands 9-1, the only loss at Chaska.

Since then it has won five in a row.

The two teams met twice last year, Brainerd winning the regular season game 2-0 and Bemidji taking the playoff opener 6-5.

Chelsea Yost, the pitcher of record in both of those games, will get today's start. She stands 5-1.

No lineup changes are foreseen.

The B Team is 10-0 entering its game. Taylor McLean is due up in the three- pitcher rotation employed by Coach Merry Kenow this spring. She is looking for her fourth win.

New format

The golf team will step away from its usual meet format to play the Park Rapids scramble over the Headwaters course.

The meet pairs the six players from each school into three teams playing nine holes of best ball and nine of scramble.

In the latter format the teams take lie of the best ball of each player to shoot their next shot.

In best ball, the players play out their own balls and use the lower score on each hole toward the team total.

Coach Eric Niskanen will use the meet to give several of his seniors an opportunity to compete.

Kevin Larson and Joe Welle will form one unit with Rylee Curb teaming with Mike Bums and Derek Buckanaga with Randy Hilliard.
