The Bemidji Lumberjacks freshman football team ended its year 3-6 but fielded a squad of 44 players, its largest group in many years.

Tim Mayclin again headed the coaching staff.

Most of the players were graduates of the 2009 8th grade Middle School program.

The team had its ups and downs, beating Warroad, Crookston and International Falls, the last two on the road, but dropping four of six other home games though two by only one touchdown.

On the other hand, against teams it may well face at the varsity level, it fell to Brainerd 55-0 and Detroit Lakes 42-0.

It was not without size, including eight 200 pounders and one 300 pounder who could form the nucleus of a solid front line in the next three falls.

Unlike several recent teams, it lacked a conversion kicker.

The frosh opened with a 28-6 loss to Hibbing before beating Warroad 22-6 in its home opener and Crookston 20-18.

But five straight setbacks followed before the final win over International Falls 34-6.

Halfback Tanner Boes led the attack with 48 points on eight touchdowns.

End Ryan Hirt was next with 24 on two touchdowns and six two-point conversion catches.

Reaching double figures were Brett Isensee with 14 and Jaylen Ingals and Tanner Phillips with 12. Wakiyan Moore had eight and Ben Christopher six.

Bemidji was outscored by its opponents 224-124, all but three of the point difference coming in the two lopsided losses.

All of the players are expected to move up to the B Team next fall.
