ST. CLOUD - Sometimes scores can be deceiving and that was the case Wednesday morning when Bemidji's Kyle Fodness and Adam Holter dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Becker's Jake Toedter and Brett Hultgren in the semifinals of the Section 8-2A doubles tournament at St. Cloud Apollo.

"The match consisted of 16 games and 13 of them went to deuce before being decided," said BHS coach Mark Fodness. "We walked off the court losing 6-1 in the second set but we felt that we almost had the win. We played very well and Adam and Kyle have nothing to hang their heads about. The difference was that we couldn't quite get the key points when we needed them."

The loss dropped Fodness and Holter into the section's third-place match where their season came to a close with a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Adam Hartung and Andy Hartung of Buffalo.

The fourth-place section finish was the third highest by a Bemidji doubles team during the past 25 years.

"We had a good year both in terms of the team and individually," Fodness said. "There can be a fine line in tennis," Fodness said.

"Sometimes things go your way and sometimes they don't. In the match against Becker things didn't go our way. And in the match against Buffalo we would have liked to have been closer but we shot all of our bullets against Becker and didn't have much left."
