Kyle Fodness had a hat trick, Isak Sommer scored a goal and had three assists and Alex Schussman notched his first varsity goal as the Bemidji boys soccer team blanked Crookston 6-0 Thursday in Crookston.
Sommer opened the scoring seven minutes into the action courtesy of Riley Brooks' assist and Fodness scored his first goal five minutes later.
The 2-0 score stood through the remainder of the half but the Lumberjacks broke the game open with four unanswered goals in the second stanza.
Fodness connected off Sommer feeds on the first two and Sommer assisted on Schussman's tally at the 55-minute mark.
Nick Gorick added the final goal off Ben Schreiber's assist with one minute remaining in the game.
"We had a slow start but the kids did what we wanted - get ahead early," said BHS coach Rick Toward. "I thought we lacked intensity in the first half but in the second we strung our passes together, maintained possession and took control."
Connor McNallan had a quiet day in the Bemidji net, making three saves in the first half and one in the second.
Pirate goalie Scott Grunewald stopped 20 of Bemidji's 27 shots.
The Jacks, 5-3, return to action 11 a.m. Saturday when they host Walker-Hackensack-Akeley. Saturday's game will be Bemidji's third home game of the fall.
