BHS boys soccer loses to Moorhead
Moorhead scored three first-half goals and netminder Tyler Guertin stopped all 10 Bemidji shots as the Spuds handed the Bemidji boys soccer team a 3-0 loss Tuesday in Moorhead.
The Spuds, who improved to 10-1-1, took advantage of a Lumberjacks lineup that is battling injury and illness. Among the Jacks who are not at 100 percent efficiency are Isak Sommer (strep), Patrick Trummer (knee) and Kyle Fodness (ankle).
"We're not very healthy right now," said BHS coach Rick Toward. "We have guys who played sparingly and who were not as effective on the field as they would be if healthy.
"We did the best we could but we had to juggle the lineup and move guys into different positions than we wanted. We did a lot of experimenting with the lineup."
The Lumberjacks fired 10 shots at Moorhead goalie Tyler Guertin and had many others clank off posts or slide just wide.
"We had plenty of open shots that rolled past Moorhead's keeper and Nick Gorick had one bounce off the cross bar," Toward said. "We created chances but those we created we couldn't finish."
The Spuds opened the scoring two minutes into the action as Bradley Granberg took Markus Dewey's throw-in and bounced a shot off the cross bar and past Bemidji goaltender Connor McNallan.
At the 18-minute mark Jake Leier took a corner kick and threaded the boot through the traffic and into the net. McNallan also was looking directly into the sun as Leier's shot curled toward the goal.
A minute later Moorhead added an insurance tally as Isaac Borgen scored courtesy of Ali Alomar's assist.
Bemidji, 8-5, returns to action 4 p.m. Thursday when it hosts Crookston.
