BHS boys hoops team picks up sixth straight win

The Bemidji High boys basketball team extended its growing win streak to six straight Saturday, defeating Sauk Rapids 66-56 on the Storm's court.

It lifted Jeff Brown's forces to 11-4

They travel to Duluth East Thursday and return home to host Alexandria Saturday afternoon in the second game of a girls-boys twin bill.

The two team spent most of the afternoon at the foul line Saturday.

There were 56 fouls whistled, 32 on Bemidji, which lost center Grant Richardson and had five others end the day with four personals.

The Storm had four players end with four.

They held a 23-16 lead over Bemidji from the foul line.

But Bemidji had too much talent for the 3-14 Storm.

Carey Woods had another fine day with 23 points including a pair of treys. Brother Czar Woods added nine and Dan Frost eight as Ryan Rude was held to three points, a season low.

Cody Meyer hit 24 to lead Sauk Rapids ,the only player with more than seven. Of his total, 13 came from, the free throw line.

Eleven minutes into the first half, Bemidji had all five starters on the bench in foul trouble.

But the second five went into play at that point and did a great job over the next seven minutes as Bemidji took a 30-23 lead to the locker room.

It added three more points to the margin in the final half though four players were playing with four fouls the final five minutes .

The B Team is also 11-4 after a 64-50 win. Ben Hengel hit 23 to pace the win with J.C. Cervenka adding 14.

No Sauk Rapids player reached double figures.

The freshmen are now 3-8 after winning their second straight 47-45.

Billy Baumgartner led with 14 while Dion Fairbanks added 10.

Three Storm players combined for 33 of their 45 point total.
