The 10th annual Bemidji Snow Angel Dance Team Competition will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the BHS Fieldhouse.

Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for students.

The varsity dance team, the Blue Angels, took third place in the Jazz/Funk category at their first competition in Hutchinson, Minn., last weekend. It is the first trophy the team has won in recent years, which head coach Amy Merschman credits to several seasons of improvement and hard work.

"They were very excited," Merschman said of their third place showing. "Just to hear their name announced - they got to cheer for their school."

The team took sixth place in the High Kick category at the same competition.

After the Hutchinson competition Merschman said team coaches looked over the judges' notes for improvements that could be made. She said the combined junior varsity and varsity High Kick team has been practicing this week at making sure each person kicks at the same time and speed.

"The first competition is always difficult," Merschman said. "They are nervous and excited, but hopefully some of their nervousness will subside and they will come out on Saturday and not make as many mistakes."

Teams set to appear in Bemidji this Saturday are Detroit Lakes, Bagley, Crookston and Wadena-Deer Creek.

The Bagley junior varsity and junior high team and the Bemidji Middle School team will both perform noncompetitively at the event.

Merschman said she has been pleased to see the freshmen on the team have been adapting well to learning new dance techniques and team veterans have shown improvement, as well.

"They are definitely improving in all abilities," Merschman said.

Spectators can expect to see a variety of routines at Saturday's competition, Merschman added.

"We have a really nice facility and a newer building. It's going to be very entertaining," she said. "It will be fun to see."
