BHS Athletics: Jacks play at Deacon's today
The Bemidji High boys golf team winds up its week today, competing at the Crosby-Ironton Invitational at Deacon's Lodge at Breezy Point.
The Arnold Palmer layout should create a strong test for the golfers.
Bemidji took second at last year's meet, trailing Brainerd by 14 strokes with a 335.
Back from that team are Kevin Larson and Joe Welle who each carded 84.
That pair will be joined by Kaleb Hanson, Rylee Curb,. Jake Hoffman and Trey Dale, elevated to a starting berth after leading the B Team at Monday's Bemidji Invitational with an 80.
That was his low round of the year but fourth time he has broken 90.
Coach Eric Niskanen may be able to set his tournament squad by the end of the week with qualifying rounds set for Thursday and Friday.Bemidji will be idle until playing at Detroit Lakes next Thursday.
The girls, meanwhile, play at Long Prairie Friday, the site of the section meet, and end the week Saturday at The Vintage at the Staples Invitational.
Sometimes you can't win for losing.
The Bemidji Lumberjacks baseball team, losers of its last four games, was looking forward to Tuesday's trip to Hibbing, a team which has won only twice this spring.
But rainy weather intervened, washing out the game.
Attempts are still being made to reschedule it later this week.
If not, the Jacks host Grand Forks Central Friday at 4:30 at BSU and head to Alexandria for another contest Saturday.
