Bertha May (Mattingly) Adams, 89, of Pennington, died Monday, March 9, 2009, at Deer River Health Care Center.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kitchi Pines Church in Blackduck with the Rev. Robert Stauffer officiating. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the spring in Sugar Bush Township Cemetery, Beltrami County.
The pallbearers will be Robert Johnson, Robert Wallner, Ervin Yoder, Ken Kephart, Sherman Turcotte and Walter Chase.
Honorary pallbearers will be all of her grandchildren.
She was born May 18, 1919, to Franklin and Bessie (Dawson) Mattingly in Bremen, Ind. In 1930, she moved to the Pennington area with her family. On May 19, 1946, she married Allen H. Adams at her parents' home near Pennington. She was a homemaker and remained on the family farm until a few weeks ago. She liked to do needle work and work crossword puzzles. Her life revolved around her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Allen (Jean) Adams of Darcus, W. Va., Mary Adams of Minneapolis, Carl W. Adams of Bemidji, Bertha (Glenn) Morrison of Bemidji and Tom Adams of Pennington; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Franklin (Lila) Mattingly of Bemidji and sister, Betty Bahr of Silver Lake, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters and two grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Deer River Health Care Center or Kitchi Pines Church.
