The Retired Senior Volunteer Program has nominated Allen Benson and Sandi Smith as Someone Special volunteers.

Benson has been volunteering since 2001 with RSVP's "America Reads" and the "Readers Theater." He is extremely dedicated to these programs, volunteering with the same teachers at Horace May Elementary School year after year. Benson takes his talent to great heights as he scripts all of the plays for Readers Theater - 15 in total since 2004, with more to come. He does all the research and finds the books that will bring the kids joy while learning. All the public schools in Beltrami County have enjoyed these performances. He has an amazing flair for what he does and is truly an asset to the RSVP Program, this community and Horace May School.

Smith is a retired teacher who loves children and is devoted to enhancing their learning abilities. She goes above and beyond her regular volunteer duties by spending extra time in the classroom and always being available to the teachers for special events and parties. Smith's creativity has made RSVP's "Readers Theater" program come alive with the costumes she constructs.

She is always willing to help with special events and programs for RSVP, even at short notice. Smith is an exceptional volunteer and friend and is enjoyed by all the volunteers and the community.
