Ben G. Piche, 60, of Frazee, died Sunday, January 18, 2009 of a heart attack.

Ben was born to George and Betty (Carver) Piche on Oct. 10, 1948 in Crookston, Minn. He was raised and educated in Red Lake Falls, Minn. As a young adult, Ben helped with his family's cattle ranch. He married Sylvia Bevolden on Sept. 6, 1969. They made their home in Red Lake Falls and raised cattle. In 1981, they moved to Frazee and continued to raise cattle.

Ben's true love was working with his cattle and riding his horses. Ben had lived with his fiancé Valerie Knutson at their home in Frazee for the last 19 years.

Surviving Ben are his children, Renae (Ken) Olexa of Fargo and Scott (Lisa) Piche of Frazee; fiancée, Valerie Knutson of Frazee; stepchildren Landon Knutson of Ulen, Heidi Carlson of Lake Park, Lynn Knutson of Frazee, LaDonna (Paul) Cossette of Medora, N.D., Tim (Manda) Knutson of Hawley and Jason (Jessica) Knutson of Hawley; 21 grandchildren; father, George Piche of Red Lake Falls; mother and stepfather, Betty and Charlie Barkie of Grand Forks, N.D.; four brothers, Dennis (Deb) Piche of Red Lake Falls, Roger (Patty) Piche of Red Lake Falls, Wayne (Lisa) Piche of Manvel, N.D., and Greg (Sharon) Piche of Thief River Falls; one sister, Elaine (Brian) Peterson of Port Orchard, Wash.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Ben in death were his son, Mark Piche and son-in-law, Christopher Carlson.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21 at West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 at West-Kjos Funeral Home, with interment following in Lakeside Cemetery, Frazee.
