Josie Spry scored on a Kiah Hartung pass to tie the game 1-1 early in the first half.

Bemidji faced the Edina Storm in its first game of the weekend, losing 3-2. Erin Booth scored for Bemidji on a free kick from 22 yards and Kelsey Merck hit the net after a pass from Aly Jacobson.

Whitney Morin had eight saves and the Blizzard defense of Hartung, Rachel Oustad, Emily Boyer and Rochelle Stevens allowed just three shots on goal in the second half. Edina went on to place first in the bracket.

Bemidji played with only 10 players in its second game of the day against St. Michael-Albertville United after Merck was injured in a collision with the SMA goalie. Booth scored on an assist from Hartung as the Blizzard played to a 1-1 tie.

Midfielders Jacobson, Anne Bruestle, Kaila Long-Voelkner and Katie Kavacovich assisted in an attack that led to 13 shots.

The tie was enough to give Bemidji second place in its bracket and the play-off chance at the final.

Girls U-14

The Bemidji Youth Soccer U-14 girls concluded their Northwest League schedule July 8 with a convincing 4-0 victory over Little Falls.

The girls finished third in the 11-team circuit with a 6-2-2 record. They outscored their opponents 18-5.

Cassidy Morris and Casey Palmer shared goal-keeping duties.

The back line was anchored by Paige Moen and Carley Ahern at center backs and Katelyn Westlund and Mackenzie Hietala at the outside backer posts.

Midfielders were Katie Hart, Sierra Anderson, Jillian Ricci, Shayanne Kaml, April Miller and Claire Laakso. Maari Stocker Sequoia Woods were the strikers.

Stocker and Ricci were the leading scorers. The team should be a contender for the title at the Northwest District tournament at Detroit Lakes.
