Squirts A

The Bemidji Squirts A closed its season in style this weekend, sweeping to the District 16 MSHA title at Baudette.

Bemidji defeated Roseau 5-3, East Grand Forks 4-3 and Warroad 3-2.

Bemidji scored four times in the third period to snap a 1-1 tie and beat Roseau.

Nick Mannausau scored twice and Ryan Pogue, Chase Hartje and Joe Leitner once.

Pogue had two assists and Hartje one.

Carson Olson made 23 stops.

The decision reversed an overtime loss to Roseau last week at the Fargo Flyers Invitational.

In the semifinals Bemidji went two overtimes to shade EGF. This, too, avenged a regular-season loss.

Bemidji took a 3-2 lead midway through the final period only to be tied when EGF converted a penalty shot.

Pogue scored twice and Hunter Olson and Hartje once.

Hartje had two assists.

Bemidji outshot EGF 36-20 with Avery Goeddertz and Olson combining on 17 saves.

In the title game Bemidji avenged two regular-season losses to Warroad.

Bemidji took a 3-1 lead in the second period before allowing the final Warroad tally before the period ended, then battling through a scoreless third period.

Hunter Olson, Hartje and Taylor Anderson had the goals. Assists went to Olson and Mannausau.

Carson Olson made 14 stops. Warroad had 16.

Squirts B White

It was a different story for the Squirts B White which dropped all three starts at its district meet at the BCA, falling to Bagley 8-3, Crookston 5-2 and Baudette 0-3.

The team ended 7-23.

It was missing three players due to illness and played with a very short bench

Bagley scored three times in each of the final two periods to overcome a 3-2 deficit.

Trevor Loewe had two goals and Mike Tews one. Gage Wherley had the lone assist.

Kyle Martens had 23 stops. Bagley needed only 11.

Crookston widened a 2-0 lead with three third-period goals in the second round.

Loewe had both goals with Tews getting the only assist.

Martens had 20 stops. Crookston had 15.

In the seventh-place game, Baudette scored once in each period. Martens made 18 stops. Baudette had 18.

Loewe led the team in scoring with 30 points. Steve Dinneen had 20, Tews 13, Brendan Kuesel 11 and Andrew Johanns 10.

Martens turned back 82.2 percent of the 808 shots he faced, posting two shutouts.
