Bemidji youth hockey report for March 10

The fine season of the Bemidji Coca Cola Pee Wee A hockey team came to an end this weekend when the Pee Wees dropped two of three starts at the west regional at East Grand Forks.

Bemidji took its opener 5-1 over Moorhead with Josh Lusby scoring twice and Eric Fitzgerald, Matthew Gregg and Jack Johnson once.

Jake Leitner had three assists and Michael Forseth and Cody Gumeringer one.

Grant Tharaldson had 21 stops. Moorhead had only 14.

Centennial then handed Bemidji a 4-1 loss in the second start with Jake Leitner scoring the only goal and Forseth and Lusby getting assists.

Tharaldson made nine stops. Centennial had 29 as Bemidji held a 30-13 shots bulge.

Elk River ended the Bemidji state chances with an 8-1 win in the third round. Tarren Baker had the Bemidji goal off a Forseth feed,

Tharaldson and Kyle Krause combined for 15 saves. Elk River had 18.

Bemidji ended an outstanding season at 33-8-1. Neil Huewe again was coach.

Nine first year players will return next winter with another fine season predicted.
